About The New Neighbor Cookie Table
The New Neighbor Cookie Table is a social food enterprise started by Hello Neighbor, a 501c3 nonprofit working to improve the lives of recently resettled refugee families in the city of Pittsburgh. Over the past year we have started offering New Neighbor Cookie Tables for special events and holidays. Food is an important part of culture and community all over the world, and is a great way for recently resettled refugees to maintain a part of their cultural identity.
We serve refugees from 12 different countries and have found that many of our refugee women are amazing bakers. We founded the New Neighbor Cookie table as a way for our refugee women–nearly all moms–to support their families through supplemental income and share their favorite recipes with their new community.
We are proud to now have 20 Hello Neighbor bakers from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and offer a variety of traditional Middle Eastern sweets. Each set is made with love by a local refugee mom and $0.75 of the proceeds from every cookie goes directly to the baker herself.
